Resistance To Healing

Healing is a courageous act, and with it often comes resistance. This resistance isn’t failure—it’s a signal. It’s the ego doing what it was designed to do: protect you.

The ego’s job is to maintain your current identity and keep you "safe" based on past experiences. When deep healing begins—especially through sound—old wounds, limiting beliefs, and stored emotional energy may begin to shift. This can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or even threatening to parts of you that have learned to survive by holding onto pain.

In Sound Healing, Resistance Can Show Up As

  • Feeling distracted or agitated during a session

  • Physical sensations such as tightness, restlessness, or sudden fatigue

  • Emotional numbness or overwhelm

  • A desire to quit or cancel sessions

  • Inner thoughts like, “This isn’t working,” or “I don’t need this.”

None of this means you are doing anything wrong. In fact, it’s often a sign that something important is stirring.

By noticing resistance with curiosity, you soften the ego’s grip and open space for true transformation. I encourage you to breathe into those moments, offer yourself compassion, and trust that healing never unfolds faster than you’re ready for.

How to Gently Move Through Resistance

Resistance doesn’t need to be forced away—it needs to be met with kindness. Here are gentle suggestions to support yourself when resistance arises:

  • Patience – Let healing unfold at its own pace. You don’t have to rush or "fix" anything. Simply showing up is enough.

  • Curiosity over judgment – Ask yourself: “What might this discomfort be trying to protect?” This shifts the inner dialogue from fear to compassion.

  • Breathe through it – Intentional, slow breathing tells the body it is safe and helps you stay present when the ego wants to retreat.

  • Repeat a calming affirmation, such as:

      “I am safe to heal.”
“It’s okay for this to take time.”
      “I trust what’s unfolding.”

  • Journal what you’re feeling – Sometimes naming the resistance can move it. You might write: “Today I felt resistant because…”

  • Move your body gently – A short walk or stretch can help move stuck energy and reduce inner tension.

  • Pause, then return – If a session feels overwhelming, take a break. You can come back when you feel grounded. Healing doesn't require endurance—it asks for presence.

  • Talk to someone safe – Whether a practitioner, friend, or guide, sharing what you’re experiencing can lighten the load.

Remember

Resistance is often a sign that healing is working. It’s your system adjusting to a new vibration—one that is more aligned with your truth.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing something very brave.
